Digital SAT in Vietnam: Test Centers, Fees and Registration for 2026–27
Posted On: 2 November, 2026
Planning the Digital SAT in Vietnam for 2026–27? This guide from True North International School covers test centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the full $111 fee in USD and VND, and every remaining date and deadline converted to Hanoi time. It also explains ID rules for foreign students and the fall 2026 Bluebook device changes. A backward calendar helps you pick a date that fits US, Japanese, Korean or Vietnamese university deadlines before seats run out.
The Digital SAT is College Board’s adaptive admission test. It is scored from 400–1600 and taken in the Bluebook app at an authorized SAT Weekend test center. In 2026, Digital SAT sittings in Vietnam take place at College Board–authorized centers in Hà Nội, TP. Hồ Chí Minh and Đà Nẵng. Most are coordinated by IIG Vietnam (IIG Việt Nam); eligible universities and international schools host the rest.
You register and pay on your College Board account. Testing in Vietnam costs $111: a $68 registration fee plus a $43 international fee. At a mid-2026 Vietcombank selling rate of about 26,330 VND/USD (State Bank of Vietnam, Aug 2026), that comes to about VND 2.92 million.
One score can open three doors: US test-required universities, English-track programs such as Waseda SILS and Keio PEARL, and combined admission (xét tuyển kết hợp) at Vietnamese universities.
To get started today:
Search your city in the College Board Test Center Search.
Check that your laptop runs Bluebook. From fall 2026, it no longer works on Windows 10.
If your child isn’t a Vietnamese citizen, plan around a passport.
The next sitting is December 5 2026. Regular registration closes November 20 2026, and the late/change deadline is November 24, 2026.

Where can you take the Digital SAT in Vietnam in 2026–27?
“Thi SAT ở đâu tại Việt Nam” has one reliable answer: the College Board Test Center Search, checked date by date. In 2026, Digital SAT sittings in Vietnam take place at College Board–authorized centers in Hà Nội, TP. Hồ Chí Minh and Đà Nẵng.
IIG Vietnam establishes and manages College Board–authorized SAT, PSAT and AP centers in Vietnam. That’s why so many Hanoi sites are IIG offices or IIG-run rooms inside universities. The rest are international and bilingual schools that opt in to host specific dates.
Which Hanoi SAT centers are listed for 2026–27?
A 2026 listing from ECE English Center names at least 15 Hanoi centers, from IIG offices to schools in Hà Đông and Hoàng Mai. Seats change with every test date. Use this list to find center codes, then confirm open seats in Test Center Search.

Which Ho Chi Minh City and Đà Nẵng centers are listed?
In Ho Chi Minh City, 2026 listings include American International School – Vietnam, Albert Einstein school and the second campus of International School Ho Chi Minh City. Older IIG lists also show the IIG HCM Branch in District 10. In Đà Nẵng, a 2021 IIG notice names the IIG Vietnam – Danang site (code 65378). Check Test Center Search for current codes in both cities.
Can your child test at a school-based center they don’t attend?
Yes, as long as that school-based center has opened seats to outside candidates for that date. Some school centers test only their own students. Test Center Search lists only bookable seats, so if a school shows up in your results, it’s taking outside registrations for that date.
Do you register with IIG Vietnam or College Board?
For the SAT Weekend, you register and pay with College Board, not IIG Vietnam, even though IIG runs many of the venues. AP Exams work differently: under IIG’s AP rules, an exam counts only if it’s registered on College Board’s My AP system and paid for through IIG. Families planning both exams around a mid-year move can follow our SAT and AP Testing Plan for students relocating mid-year.
How much does the SAT cost in Vietnam in USD and VND?

Is it cheaper to take the SAT in Hanoi than in Seoul, Hong Kong or India?
On registration fees alone, yes. Some centers in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan add a $24 local fee, for $135 in total (uni2study, 2026). In India, GST pushes the total to about $131 (LeapScholar, Jan 2026).

Limited seats, mostly inside international schools
Chinese parents will remember the old forum question “Can you take SATs in China?” and the stock reply, “I think you can only take it in Hong Kong?” That’s no longer quite true. Mainland China now has centers, but they’re limited and mostly hosted inside international schools. Hong Kong registration information sits with the HKEAA. For a Chinese family already living in Hanoi, a local seat means no flight at all.
What are the remaining SAT dates and deadlines after November 2026?
Four SAT Weekend dates remain in 2026–27: December 5 2026, March 6 2027, May 1 2027 and June 5 2027. Every deadline closes at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time. In Hanoi, that’s late morning the next day.

The late deadline doubles as the deadline for changes and regular cancellation, and it carries the $38 late fee. Treat the US Eastern date as your real deadline. Don’t bank on the extra morning in Hanoi.
Japanese families ask the same question: 国際学生にとって2026年のSAT登録はいつまでに完了すべきですか (“By when should international students finish SAT registration in 2026?”). For Hanoi, True North’s advice is to register the day a date opens. A 2026 guide to Southeast Asian centers (uni2study) reports that seats at popular school centers close weeks before the official deadline.

When will December 2026 SAT scores arrive?
A published 2026–27 schedule gives December 18, 2026 as the student score release date for the December 5 2026 sitting. College Board says weekend scores usually arrive two to four weeks after test day, so check your child’s own release date in the College Board account.
PRO TIP FROM TRUE NORTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL: Pick your four free score sends before you see the score, not after. The four free reports must be used within a short window after test day (College Board currently allows up to 9 days). For the December 5, 2026 sitting, that means choosing colleges by about December 14, 2026 (US Eastern), several days before the December 18 release. After the window closes, each report costs $15, and it is sent only once you place the order. For January Regular Decision deadlines, naming your must-send colleges early is usually the faster and cheaper route. Keep risky "maybe" colleges for later, paid sends.
Will the May 1 2027 SAT in Vietnam move because of the holiday?
May 1 2027 falls on Vietnam’s Labor Day, and the 2026 sitting was moved for the same reason. In 2026, IIG pushed Vietnam’s May sitting to May 16 to clear the April 30–May 1 holidays (Aralia). If you’re targeting May 2027, check IIG notices before you book.
Must Grade 12 students take the December SAT?
No. December is one of four remaining dates, and the right one depends on counting back from each deadline on your child’s list. Vietnamese university registration happens in summer, not early in the year. In 2026, candidates registered from July 2 to 5 p.m. on July 14 (MOET 2026 plan, via Báo Lào Cai). The 2027 window will be set in the 2027 admission plan.
Which SAT date should your child choose: December or wait for March 2027?
Pick the date by counting back from the earliest deadline on the list. Leave room for three things: score release, score sending and one backup sitting. College Board says scores arrive two to four weeks after test day; the 2026–27 schedule lists 13 to 16 days. The True North International School university counselling team builds this backward calendar with each Grade 11–12 family before anyone pays the $111.

Should a Grade 10 student sit a diagnostic SAT in March or May 2027?
Usually not. The official Bluebook practice tests give a Grade 10 student the same diagnosis for free, with no $111 fee. A common search, “Which Sat Practice Test on Bluebook is the Best,” has a simple answer: take them in order, timed.
What ID does your child need on SAT test day?
For SAT testing in Vietnam, College Board accepts only three IDs: a valid Vietnamese national ID card, a valid passport from any country, or a US Department of War Common Access Card. IIG Vietnam is stricter with foreigners: a passport is the only ID it accepts from non-Vietnamese candidates.
Candidate

Not accepted
Student card, photocopy
Candidate

College Board requires the name on the ID to match the admission ticket exactly. Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese names put the family name first, while many forms assume the Western order. Check the name on the College Board profile against the passport or CCCD before you register.
PRO TIP FROM TRUE NORTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL: Build the College Board account from the passport, not from school records. School reports often use a different name order or an English nickname, such as "Kevin" for a Korean student or "Annie" for a Vietnamese student. On test day, though, proctors compare the admission ticket with the ID in hand. Copy the passport's Latin-script spelling, name order and any hyphen in the given name exactly. Then keep one account for life. Creating a second account to "start fresh" can split scores and history across two profiles, and fixing that later takes time you won't have near a deadline.
Will your laptop run Bluebook in fall 2026?
Bluebook runs only on Mac and Windows devices, iPads and school-managed Chromebooks. From fall 2026, it no longer works on Windows 10. Many online guides and AI chatbots still quote Windows 10, macOS 11 and iPadOS 14. Those minimums are out of date.

How do you borrow a device for the December SAT?
College Board needs a device-loan request at least 30 days before test day. For December 5 2026, that’s around November 5, 2026, more than two weeks before the November 20 registration deadline. Approved borrowers must arrive 30 minutes early to finish exam setup at the center.
PRO TIP FROM TRUE NORTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL: "Freeze" the device once Bluebook exam setup is done. Run exam setup at home a few days before test day, then switch off automatic operating-system updates until the test is over. Apple usually releases iPadOS upgrades right before or during the fall testing window, and College Board recommends deferring them, because a fresh, uncertified version can block Bluebook on the morning of the test. Also avoid using a parent's company laptop. Expat families often have one at home, but corporate IT policies and admin restrictions can stop Bluebook from installing or from entering its locked testing mode. A personal device that meets the minimums is the safer choice.
What if Bluebook crashes during the test?
If Bluebook fails mid-test, True North’s advice is simple: stay seated, raise a hand, and make sure the proctor logs the incident before you leave the room. College Board then decides the next steps for affected students. After the March 2025 incident in Hanoi, those steps included make-up tests.
What actually happened in the March 2025 “Hanoi Bluebook crash”?
On March 8, 2025, some candidates at Hanoi centers saw their tests auto-submit before they had finished. College Board’s communications director put it down to a problem with the Bluebook app, said it had been fixed, and promised affected students support, including make-up tests.
Students who finished before 11 a.m. weren’t affected; those still testing after 11 a.m. were. Reported venues included NEU, Banking Academy, HUST and the University of Natural Resources and Environment.
Evidence · Single incident
On March 8, 2025, College Board's communications director confirmed that a Bluebook problem caused some tests at Hanoi centers to auto-submit before students finished. College Board fixed the issue and offered affected students support, including make-up tests. Candidates who finished before 11 a.m. were not affected. Reported sites included NEU, Banking Academy, HUST and the University of Natural Resources and Environment.
Source: Znews · March 2025 · Hanoi centers, one test date. This is one incident, not evidence of a recurring pattern.
Most Vietnamese families who search “lỗi thi SAT”, “gặp lỗi SAT” or “thi lại SAT gặp lỗi” are asking about this day. College Board put the problem down to the Bluebook app. It was one test date in Hanoi, not a pattern across Vietnamese centers.
Does a familiar school-based center prevent a crash?
No. In True North’s counselling experience, a familiar school-based center cuts travel time and test-morning nerves, because students already know the route and the rooms. But no venue can stop a platform-side failure like the one on March 8, 2025. Real protection comes from two things: a backup date, and knowing your options to cancel or keep a score before test day.
IMPORTANT: WHAT TO RECORD IF BLUEBOOK FAILS IN THE ROOM:
Note the time and the screen: Write down the exact time, which module was on screen and any error message on the scratch paper you were given, and tell the proctor immediately. That record is what College Board relies on when deciding about a make-up test.
Make sure the proctor logs it: Ask the proctor to include your name in the test-day irregularity report before you leave. If the problem is not logged on the day, it is much harder to prove later.
Contact College Board within days: Families should contact College Board customer service soon after the test with the center code, test date and a description of the problem, and not wait for score release.
Don't make score decisions in a panic: Find out what options College Board offers for affected students, such as a make-up test or keeping or cancelling the score, before deciding anything on the spot.
What should you do if every Hanoi SAT center is full?
Check Test Center Search every day, because seats reappear when students cancel or schools add rooms. If you’ve typed “what to do sat test centers full” into Google, the fix comes down to three moves: book the next open date, widen the search, and switch later if a closer seat opens up.
0 / 4
StepActionCost / risk
1
ActionBook any open seat for your target date, even in another district

MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN SWITCHING SEATS:
Assuming $34 changes the date: The $34 change fee covers a switch of test center only. To move to another test date, you generally have to cancel and register again, so check the refund terms before you drop a booked seat.
Switching center late with a loaner device: If you change test center within 30 days of the test, College Board may not be able to deliver the loaned device to the new location. Students borrowing a device should lock in their center early and not chase a nearer seat in the final month.
Treating payment as a formality: Registration is not complete until the international card payment goes through. Vietnamese cards sometimes decline foreign online payments or ask for an extra OTP step. Pay at least a day before the deadline and keep the confirmation email.
Booking only the last possible date: If the only sitting your child books is the final one before the deadline, a crash, illness or holiday reschedule leaves no fallback. Always keep one backup date in the plan.
Whether you search “sat test dates and locations 2026 near me” or go straight to Test Center Search, remember that the tool lists only open seats. If a center is missing from the results, it’s full or closed for that date.
Does an SAT score still matter for 2027 university admission?
An SAT score matters most at test-required universities and at programs that turn it into admission points. All eight Ivy League universities have revived the SAT/ACT requirement or will restore it (The Washington Times, September 2026). In the 2026–27 cycle, six of the eight require scores, and Princeton and Columbia follow the next year (Carnegie Prep, 2026).
Evidence · Admitted-student averages
Students admitted to Waseda SILS averaged an SAT of 1,452, an ACT of 33.2 and an IB Diploma score of 37.5/42. Competitive applicants scored 100+ on TOEFL or 7+ on IELTS. These figures show where successful applicants landed. They are not minimum scores or guaranteed cut-offs.

Do US universities require the SAT for Fall 2027 applicants?
Harvard, Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Penn, Cornell, Stanford, MIT, Georgetown and Caltech require SAT or ACT scores (Collegedunia, April 2026). Test-optional is not the same as test-blind. A test-optional college still reviews a score if an applicant sends one; only test-blind colleges ignore it.
What SAT score do Waseda SILS and Keio PEARL expect?
Neither program publishes a fixed SAT cutoff.

Do Vietnamese universities accept SAT for 2027 admission?
Yes. Many Vietnamese universities convert SAT scores into combined-admission points, each with its own published formula. A 2025 Znews headline put it bluntly: “SAT từ 800 điểm có thể xét tuyển vào đại học” (an SAT score from 800 can be used for university admission). Competitive programs set the bar much higher.

For 2026, NEU planned about 9,000 places, mostly through combined admission with IELTS 5.5+ or SAT 1,200+. IIG Vietnam also lists Đại học Bách khoa Hà Nội (HUST) among the universities that use SAT scores in admission. Since 2026, Vietnam’s Ministry of Education has required universities to publish their conversion formulas, so 2027 thresholds will appear in each university’s admission plan.
Should your child skip the SAT altogether?
For some students, yes. Most US four-year colleges are still test-optional, and a few dozen won’t look at scores at all (Collegewise, 2026). A March 2025 Znews headline, “Lao vào học SAT để rộng cửa vào đại học” (“Rushing into SAT prep to widen the door to university”), captures a rush that doesn’t suit every applicant.
Three groups can reasonably skip it:

True North’s view is that testing in Hanoi isn’t automatically safer than testing at home. The 2026 holiday reschedule and the March 2025 incident show that Hanoi sittings carry their own risks. If your family has a reliable center back in Seoul, Bengaluru or Tokyo, compare the total cost and backup options before you choose.
Use the True North SAT Readiness Check before you pay

Want a second pair of eyes on your test date? The True North university counselling team is happy to talk it through in a 15-minute call or Zalo/WhatsApp chat: 024 7304 3768.
The True North SAT Readiness Check was developed by the university counselling team at True North International School (Hà Đông, Hanoi) for the 2026–27 SAT cycle. Rules referenced: College Board dates, fees, ID and Bluebook device requirements, and IIG Vietnam ID rules. Always confirm current policies on College Board before test day.
True North International School teaches College Board’s AP program, holds ACS WASC accreditation (May 2024) and is a member of EARCOS. It’s also listed as Hanoi center code 65032; look up that code in the College Board Test Center Search for your date. Kiều Trọng Tú will update this guide before the March 6 2027 registration deadline.
Digital SAT in Vietnam: Troubleshooting Q&A
What should I do if Bluebook says my laptop can't be used for the Digital SAT in Vietnam?
For 2026–27, Bluebook requires one of these:
Windows 11 (Bluebook stops working on Windows 10 from fall 2026)
macOS 12.0 or later
iPadOS 16.0 or later (17.0.0–17.0.3 excluded)
A school-managed Chromebook with verified mode
Phones and personal Chromebooks are not accepted. Fix it by upgrading the operating system, borrowing a compatible device from family or school, or requesting a College Board loaner at least 30 days before test day. For the December 5, 2026 SAT, that means around November 5, 2026.
What can I do if every SAT test center in Hanoi shows no seats?
Seats in Hanoi often reopen when students cancel or schools add rooms, so check College Board Test Center Search daily. Meanwhile:
Book any open seat on your target date, even in another district or in TP. Hồ Chí Minh or Đà Nẵng.
Switch to a nearer center later for a $34 change fee, before the late/change deadline.
Ask your school counselor whether a school-based center has added capacity.
Vietnam has historically not offered SAT waitlist requests, so don't rely on one.
What happens if the name on my College Board account doesn't match my passport?
College Board can dismiss a student whose ID doesn't match the admission ticket, and the test fee is not refunded. Fix the account name before test day, through your College Board account or SAT customer service. Copy the passport's Latin-script spelling and name order exactly. Foreign nationals testing at IIG Vietnam centers must bring a passport, because IIG does not accept residence cards. Vietnamese citizens may use a CCCD or a valid passport.
What should my child do if Bluebook crashes or auto-submits during the SAT?
Stay seated, raise a hand, and tell the proctor right away. Write down the time, the module and any error message. Ask the proctor to log the incident, then contact College Board customer service within days with the center code and test date. On March 8, 2025, a Bluebook problem auto-submitted some tests at Hanoi centers. College Board fixed the problem and offered affected students support, including make-up tests (Znews, March 2025).
Can I change my SAT test date in Vietnam by paying the $34 change fee?
Usually not. According to ECE English Center's 2026 guide, the $34 fee covers changing the test center only. Moving to another test date generally means cancelling and registering again, so check College Board's refund terms before dropping a booked seat. Any change must be made by the late/change deadline, which is November 24, 2026 for the December 5, 2026 SAT. Changing center within 30 days of the test may also prevent delivery of a College Board loaner device.
My card was declined while paying for the SAT in Vietnam. What now?
College Board charges $111 (the $68 registration plus the $43 international fee) in USD, and registration is not complete until payment succeeds. To fix a declined payment:
Enable online and international payments in your banking app.
Complete any OTP step without switching away from the payment page.
Try a different Visa or Mastercard.
Pay at least one day before the deadline. Deadlines close at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time, which is late morning the next day in Hanoi.
I missed the November 20, 2026 SAT deadline in Vietnam. Can I still take the December test?
Yes, until the late registration deadline of November 24, 2026 (11:59 p.m. US Eastern), for an extra $38 on top of the standard $111. Late registration still depends on open seats at a Vietnamese test center. If no seat is available, the next SAT Weekend date is March 6, 2027 (regular deadline February 19, 2027). March scores arrive March 19, 2027, which is too late for most January US Regular Decision deadlines.
