How will True North students benefit from AP courses?
Our students will be ready for the challenge and acquire college-level academic skills because AP courses are often comparable to first-year college courses. A student's experiences with the academic rigor of college courses will be demonstrated to universities by having AP coursework on their transcripts, which enhances their college applications.
Students can receive college credit if they decide to take the AP examinations for their AP coursework. Every May, AP tests are given with scores of 1 to 5. A student's test score of 4 or 5 may count toward their college credits, depending on the course and the college. This suggests that students would have the opportunity to complete first-year requirements and possibly graduate earlier, or they would have time to add a second major or minor to their plan.

How are classes for Advanced Placement conducted at True North School?
True North School utilizes the Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) and Advanced Placement (AP) Programs, created and authorized by the College Board, for its Grade 9-12 international education curriculum. True North School students will learn the Pre-AP curriculum in Grade 9 to prepare for the AP curriculum in Grades 10-12.
At True North School, we offer a wide range of AP courses. Our school carries out 20 AP courses in six academic departments of AP Arts, AP English, AP History and Social Science, AP Math & Computer Science, AP Foreign Languages, and AP Sciences.
For high performing international track students, they will be able to take 8-10 AP courses before they graduate. They begin with 1 AP course in G9, one or two AP courses in G10, three to four AP courses in G11, and 12, depending on teacher approval and grade point average.
For high performing bilingual track students, they will be able to take four to five AP courses before they graduate. They begin with one AP course in G10, and two AP courses in G11 and 12.
True North School believes that each student has different approaches and educational pathways to higher education levels. It is also TNS’s mission to create a strategic and personalized roadmap to the best-fit universities.
The Academic Committee and Senior Leadership Team will determine which students are qualified for which AP courses before the start of the next academic year. If the students meet the prerequisites and receive approval from the Academic Committee, they can register for AP courses.
The Academic Committee and Senior Leadership Team gain a thorough understanding of the student's strengths, interests, and future goals for both college and their chosen career. With this viewpoint, the counselor can advise the student on the best path to take in terms of courses. By highlighting their talents, passions, and academic determination, our counselors and mentors assist students in creating the strongest possible profiles.

The AP Program and AP exams are designed by the College Board, allowing students to work on college-level coursework while still in high school. As the first school in Vietnam to offer AP courses starting in Grade 9, True North School’s mission is to prioritize Academic Rigor as one of our 4 Pillars of Excellence.
