For the 1st time, True North School held a national competition for primary school students, with all of the following factors:
- Demonstrate their talents and English skills.
- Explore careers in the Television & Communication industry.
- Create an interactive environment for parents and students to meet experts, educators, and coaches.

Morning: Spelling Bee & StoryBoard

Afternoon: Newscasting & Drama Dubbing

II. CONTEST TOPIC
True North School invites gifted students to put their skills to the test in 4 categories in order to identify and develop talent, as well as confidence, style, and acting ability: Spelling Bee, Storyboard, Drama Dubbing, Newscasting.

III. CONTEST PARTICIPANTS
- The contest is open to students from grades 1 - 5 who are studying at Primary schools in Vietnam.
- English is the official language of the competition.

*HiTV is a television channel (owned by HiTV Television Joint Stock Company) that has been in the business of "producing motion pictures, video films, and television programs" for over 16 years.
V. CONTENTS AND PROVISIONS
Spelling Bee
The Spelling Bee is an English word spelling contest for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. It is designed to help students improve their pronunciation skills, ability to remember words, and quick reflexes when using English.
- The maximum number of students is 90 students.
- Each student will be given a number. They will go on stage and receive their sentence on the TV screen.
- If a student identifies the incorrect spelling and spells correctly, they move on to the next round of competition.
- If a student spells incorrectly, they’re out.
Note: If every student in a round misspells or identifies the wrong word, all the students in the round are invited back to the competition. Everyone from that round gets another chance. - Students can’t change the letters they’ve already said or the order they said them.
- We will judge the spelling based on the order of the letters only; students don’t need to indicate capitals, special characters, or spaces.
- Once the competition is down to 1 contestant, they are the winner of the Spelling Bee.
Storyboard
Are you creative and love to tell stories? This is the perfect competition for you. Let’s create a storyboard using your imagination, drawing skills, and creativity.
- The maximum number of students is 15 students.
- This event will allow students to join at any time as long as they complete the storyboard and submit it by the end of the event timeslot.
- Students will be given designated time to create their storyboard.
- The storyboard should be hand-drawn on a piece of paper or poster board with at least six panels and sentences explaining that scene. 2-3 sentences for G1; 4-5 sentences for G2.
- Students can use any materials to create their storyboard, including colored pencils, markers, crayons, and stickers. However, using any digital tools or images should not be allowed.
Drama Dubbing
The Dramma Dubbing contest focuses on stimulating students’ creativity, English proficiency, and presentation skills by having them write and perform the script for short video clips, in which the audio has been removed.
- Students will break up into groups of 2 and will be provided with a short lecture about scripts, characters, and voices.
- Maximum of 20 teams (40 students).
- The students will be given a slide show in which two characters interact.
- Students will be given time to prepare scripts in which they choose what the characters say in each of the scenes.
- These do not need to write it out in full, and improvisation is encouraged.
- Students take turns presenting, in which the students can move between the slides with a clicker. They will use microphones to help with the projection of their voices and they fill in the words the people in the story are saying.
- After all the students have presented, the adjudicators will provide feedback on the student's performances.
- Presentation time: 2-3 minutes.
Newscasting
As a TV News and Weather Reporter, you are responsible for finding interesting news stories and putting together weather reports presenting to your audience. We need shining stars, like you, to join True North TV as we go live!
Round One (Weather Reporting)
- The competition is open to primary school students, Grades 1 - 5.
- The students must deliver an online weather report utilizing the script provided on the ONLINE FORM.
- Students can choose to adapt and personalize the script.
- Students must include at least one prop in their performance.
- Students submit the test according to the instructions on the online form.
- The maximum performance duration is 2 minutes.
- Eligible 15 students to participate in Round 2.
Round Two (News Broadcasting)
- Round Two will be conducted at True North School as part of the True North TV Event.
- Students must deliver one news story that will be sent to them prior to the second round of the competition (07/04/2023).
- Students will prepare and rehearse at home in preparation for the competition.
- The students will be given 1 hour to prepare themselves when they arrive at True North School.
- When preparing, students are allowed to make any notes/ script and bring it to the performing room.
- The maximum performance duration is 3 minutes.

VII. OTHER PROVISIONS
- The results of the contest will be determined by the judges in accordance with the judging criteria announced by the Organizing Committee to the teams before the competition date. In the event of a dispute, the decision of the Organizing Committee is final.
- The organizers have the right to record and take pictures of the participating members, the Jury, the Observer, or any other student at the contest. The Organizing
- Committee has the right to use the image, video & information materials of the contestant in the contest to use for communication - advertising purposes.
