Position Title: ELA Lead Teacher

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Lead Teacher Responsibilities
- Leadership & Department Coordination
- Lead and oversee the ELA subject area, ensuring effective implementation of the curriculum and alignment with school expectations.
- Attend weekly leadership meetings and report on department activities, progress, and key matters.
- Coordinate weekly department meetings, including preparing agendas, maintaining records, communicating school leadership expectations, and following up on assigned responsibilities.
- Ensure school policies and procedures are effectively implemented throughout the department.
- Support the school's vision, goals, and leadership expectations within the department.
2. Curriculum, Assessment & Academic Coordination
3. Teacher Training & Professional Development
Plan, coordinate, and deliver professional development and training for teachers in the following areas:
- Teaching Methodologies: Develop effective teaching methods and classroom practices.
- Curriculum: Curriculum implementation, lesson planning, and alignment with school expectations.
- Technical Innovation: Educational technology and innovative teaching tools to enhance teaching and learning.
4. Student Management & Activities
- Support the coordination of student management and behaviour procedures, including parent communication and student support.
- Coordinate student events and activities, including field trips, ASA and club assignments, competitions, and school-wide events.
Subject Coordinator Responsibilities
- Coordinate monthly subject meetings, including preparing agendas, maintaining records, communicating school leadership expectations, and following up on assigned responsibilities.
- Coordinate peer observations, review lesson plans, and share best practices within the subject area.
- Conduct an annual review of teaching resources and recommend updates or improvements where necessary.
- Coordinate the planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation of events, activities, and competitions related to the subject area.
ELA: Literacy Week, Writing Competition, Public Speaking Competition, Readathon, Spelling Bee, Selection and preparation for external competitions.
Teaching & Learning Responsibilities
- Develop and implement teaching plans in alignment with the school's curriculum, work plan, and learning objectives.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, learning activities, and assessment materials.
- Develop and maintain assessment materials, including quizzes, tests, and question banks as required.
- Deliver effective and engaging lessons and manage students to ensure a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment.
- Monitor and assess students' learning progress and provide appropriate feedback and support.
- Communicate with parents regarding students' learning progress, development, and support needs in accordance with school requirements.
- Maintain accurate student records and update relevant information on the school's Learning Management System (LMS).
- Participate in department meetings, professional development, training sessions, school activities, and other events as required.
- Collaborate with colleagues and relevant departments to support students' learning and the effective implementation of school programs.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Line Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor’s degree in English, English Language Arts, Education, Literature, or a related field. A valid Teaching Credential/License is preferred.
- A Master's degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience in an international Secondary/High school.
- Proven experience teaching ELA using modern, student-centered pedagogical approaches;
- Strong knowledge of ELA curriculum, literacy development, reading and writing instruction, and assessment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to child safeguarding, student well-being, and inclusive education.
