An insightful workshop for parents!

An engaging Literacy Skills Workshop for Parents, led and presented by Principal Terri Pham., has recently engaged lots of attention from our community.

The workshop offered parents a clear and in-depth look into how TNIS builds a strong foundation in reading and writing through a structured, research-based literacy approach, including:

  • Phonics routines delivered through whole-group instruction, small-group instruction, learning centers, and individualized 1:1 support
  • Decodable texts that help students strengthen decoding skills, boost confidence, and improve reading fluency and accuracy
  • Scarborough’s Reading Rope, highlighting how Word Recognition (phonological awareness, decoding, sight recognition) and Language Comprehension (background knowledge, vocabulary, language structure, verbal reasoning, literacy knowledge) are woven together to develop skilled, strategic readers over time.

What made the session truly special was the interactive experience for parents. Rather than simply listening to a presentation, parents actively participated in hands-on activities exactly as their children do in the classroom.

The session was a meaningful opportunity for school and families to learn together, strengthening partnership and trust as we support each child’s growth as a confident, capable reader.
